Item Quality Tiers

Acquisition Methods
Loot Containers
Legendary items can spawn in high-level loot containers:
- Military crates: Highest chance, found in military bases and bunkers
- Gun safes: Moderate chance, found in banks and weapon stores
- Working stiffs crates: Low chance, found in hardware stores
- Medicine cabinets: For medical items only
Quest Rewards
Completing high-tier quests offers legendary rewards:
- Tier 5 quests: Guaranteed legendary item choice
- Tier 4 quests: 25% chance for legendary
- Buried supplies quests: Small chance based on game stage
Special Sources
- Demolisher zombies: Rare drop chance
- Treasure maps: Dig sites may contain legendary items
- Trader secret stashes: Refresh daily, chance increases with Better Barter perk

The player's game stage significantly affects legendary drop rates:
- Game Stage 1-50: 0% chance
- Game Stage 51-100: 1% chance
- Game Stage 101-150: 3% chance
- Game Stage 151+: 5% chance

Legendary items feature:
- Maximum mod slots: 5 slots for weapon/armor mods
- Reduced degradation: 50% slower durability loss
- Enhanced stats: Highest damage, range, or protection values
- Repair cost: Requires high-quality repair kits and materials
