Modlets are updated by their authors on their own schedule, so the 7 Days to Die version each one supports varies. Check the mod's own source page for the version it currently targets.
The 7 Days to Die 1.0 release has seen a surge of "modlets"—small, focused mods that enhance specific parts of the game without requiring a full overhaul. Below are the top-rated community picks from Nexus Mods and the wider community.
| Mod Name | Author | Key Insight / Pro-Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Extended World Settings | ShadowOsmium | Allows for 12K and 16K map generation. Use this to create "Megacities" by increasing the city density multiplier beyond vanilla limits. |
| Map Generator Bug Fix | LuzipherMST | Essential: Fixes the road-to-city connection issues found in early 1.0 builds where cities would sometimes be isolated from the highway network. |
| Ecological Era - Nature Reborn | 2077300492 | A visual powerhouse. It replaces low-res grass and tree textures with high-fidelity versions. Performance Tip: May drop FPS in dense forest biomes by 10-15%. |
| Always Open | ShadowOsmium | Removes the morning/night gate closing logic for Traders. Great for servers where players work late-night shifts. |
The 1.0 UI can be cluttered. These mods provide a cleaner, more informative experience.
| Mod Name | Author | Features |
|---|---|---|
| SMX - By Sirillion | Sirillion | The gold standard for UI. Replaces every menu with a gorgeous, steampunk-horror aesthetic. Requires SMXlib to be installed first. |
| AGF - V2 - HUD PLUS | AuroraGiggleFairy | Moves health/stamina to a compact corner and adds a detailed temperature/altimeter readout. |
| SteelUI - Black UI | 0xSteel | Modern, flat-dark theme. Includes a high-contrast crosshair that is much easier to see in the desert and snow biomes. |
| Quartz | Laydor2 | A framework mod. While it doesn't change much on its own, many advanced UI mods require it for their custom widgets. |
| Mod Name | Author | Why You Need It |
|---|---|---|
| ProxiCraft / Craft From Containers | RKhaos / aedenthorn | Automatically pulls ingredients from chests within 15 blocks. Saves hours of "chest sorting" over a full play-through. |
| QuickStack | Westwud | Press one button to deposit all matching items from your inventory into nearby chests. Essential for "Dump Chests". |
| OCB Stop Fuel Waste | ocbMaurice | Smarter workstations. Forges and Campfires will turn off as soon as their queue is finished, saving wood and coal. |
| 30K Stacks | Elucidus4 | Increases inventory stacks from 500/1000 to 30,000. Reduces the number of storage chests needed by 90%. |
| More Skill Points Per Level | Adardowen | Customizable (2-5 points). Perfect for solo players who want to experience all builds without grinding to level 300. |
| Mod Name | Author | Key Features |
|---|---|---|
| Bdub's Vehicles (1.0) | bdubyah | Adds the Box Truck (4-player co-op) and MD500 Helicopter. These are significantly faster than vanilla vehicles. |
| IZY-All in One Gun Pack | FlufferNutterSandwich | Adds 30+ new weapons with custom sound effects and reload animations that match the high quality of 1.0 vanilla guns. |
| Firearms Expansion 4 | Smadol99 | Focuses on "Lore Friendly" weapons like the 9mm Carbine and the Double-Barrel Shotgun variant. |
| HDHQ Overhaul - Textures | DUST2DEATH | Massive 4K texture pack for terrain and vehicles. Warning: Requires at least 12GB of VRAM for smooth performance. |
| PhD Bigger Backpack | PhDGaming | Expands the backpack to 96 or 120 slots. Includes a "Secure Storage Chest" upgrade for base defense. |
The honest answer is: it depends on what kind of survival you want. Darkness Falls is the deepest overhaul if you want hundreds of hours of new content and a brutal endgame. Undead Legacy is the choice for crafting depth and a slower, more methodical pace. War of the Walkers is the most accessible overhaul for veteran vanilla players. Rebirth is the popular pick for groups that want hardcore challenge without the learning curve of Darkness Falls. For modlets (smaller, focused mods), IZY Gun Pack and Craft From Containers are the most installed.
No. Major overhauls (Darkness Falls, Undead Legacy, Ravenhearst, War of the Walkers, Rebirth, Asylum) replace the same files and conflict at startup. Pick one overhaul and layer modlets on top. The mod compatibility matrix lists which modlets are safe to stack on each overhaul.
Almost all overhauls and most modlets are client-side: every connecting player needs the same mod set at the same version as the server. The cleanest distribution is via the 7D2D Mod Launcher, which version-pins the build. Server-only mods (telnet helpers, RCON tooling, anti-cheat extensions) exist but they are the exception. If you see asset-bundle-failed-to-load errors on connect, that is almost always a version mismatch.
Vanilla V2.6 runs comfortably on 8 GB for a 4-player server. Add a heavy overhaul (Darkness Falls, Asylum, Rebirth) and you should plan for 12 GB at 4 players, 16 GB at 8 players, 20 GB at 12 players. The growth is mainly from extra entity counts and POI prefab caches. See the performance tuning guide for tradeoffs.
Easy Anti-Cheat blocks runtime code-injection. Most overhauls use Harmony patches and custom DLLs at startup; EAC stops them and the game falls back to vanilla. Disable EAC in the launcher options before joining a modded server. Dedicated server hosts disable EAC in serverconfig.xml; players still need to disable it client-side.
For overhauls, yes. They change biome generation, POI placement, loot tables, and the progression tree, so existing worlds will either crash on load or generate broken chunks. For pure-UI modlets (HUD changes, recipe tweaks, smaller backpack edits) you can usually layer them on an existing save, but back up first.
V2.6 reworked the random world generator, added biome difficulty tuning, and shifted parts of the entity tree. Most overhaul authors shipped V2.6-compatible builds within a few weeks of the V2.6 Stable release. The Mod Launcher version-checks against the live game build, so the safest path is to install via the launcher rather than copying files manually from older guides.
