Player Data Reset or Missing

Tags: player data, saves, troubleshooting, server

If players join and spawn as fresh characters, the server is likely loading a different save or the player data is missing.

Check the active save

  • Verify GameName and GameWorld match the intended save folder.
  • Confirm the server is pointing at the right save path.
  • Restore from a known-good backup if player data is missing.

Common causes

CauseFix
GameName changedRevert to the original GameName or move the save folder.
New world createdPoint back to the original save and restart.
Corrupt player dataRestore from backup or regenerate and re-assign XP.

One more cause worth ruling out when a single player resets while everyone else is fine: an identity mismatch. Their character file in Player/ is named for one ID (say Steam_7656...) while they now connect with another (say EOS_...), so the game builds them a fresh level-1 slot. The documented fix is renaming the progressed character's files to the new ID, and the free 7 Days to Die Player Transfer tool does it for you: it reads the Player/ folder in your browser, spots the progressed character and the fresh slot, and builds the renamed bundle to drop back in - nothing is uploaded and the originals are untouched.
