Valmod 7D2D Mod

Valmod

Valmod is a mod pack for 7 Days to Die made by Valmar, who published it on GitHub as LordValmar. It came in two editions that share the same new content: the Expansion, which adds items, recipes, quests and zombies, and the Overhaul, which adds the same content and also rebuilds how you progress. A separate Horde Edition add-on went on top of the Overhaul with no climbing zombies, lethal headshots and larger hordes.

Status: Valmod was last updated for Alpha 16 and has no build for Alpha 17 or any later version, so it does not run on the current V3.3. Its last numbered update, V5.5, was published on October 28, 2017, and the last change of any kind to the Overhaul repository was a small balance tweak on November 8, 2018.

Version history

Valmod followed the game one alpha at a time. The dates below come from the release list and commit history of the Overhaul repository.

What Valmod adds

From Valmar's release notes. The Combine Station and the skill-based progression are Overhaul changes; the rest was shared by both editions or not tied to one.

Feature What it does
Starting classes You start by picking a class. V4 merged the Rifleman into the Hunter, and V4.2 added the Wildcard, which starts with generic gear, an ammo supply box, a random legendary item and 50 skill points to spend however you like.
New zombies The Zombie Brute (the former Gorilla Boss, with its own texture), a unique boss zombie in graveyards, a rare Jason Voorhees with a machete, and from V4.5 a Crazed Slasher variant.
Quests New quests and quest items, including fetch quests that pay out duke coins. V4.2 added the Quest Board, a craftable workstation that works like a vendor where you buy quests.
Tools Scrap iron tools that hit harder than stone ones but wear out faster, and iron and steel tools and weapons crafted from heads rather than plain forged iron or steel.
Skill-based unlocks (Overhaul) Recipes unlock by skill level instead of perks: pistol recipes need level 20 in pistols, and Carpentry, Blacksmithing and Cooking level up as you craft. Gun Smithing is gone; your skill with a weapon decides how much quality it loses when you repair it.
Combine Station (Overhaul) From V4.3 the workbench no longer combines items. The Combine Station does, locked behind level 2 of the Quality Joe perk.
Working appliances Perks to craft working electric lights, working sinks for unlimited clean water, and working ovens that cook without fuel.
Interface From V4, a modified version of Sirillion's SMX UI mod.
Bigger backpack An optional 45-slot backpack. It breaks Easy Anti-Cheat, so the game has to run with EAC off.

How Valmod installs

Valmod predates the modern Mods folder. The instructions in its repository have you open the game's install folder from Steam (Properties, Local Files, Browse) and copy the pack's Data and Mods folders over the game's own, overwriting when asked. That replaces the game's own configuration files, so it only works on the game build it was made for. Every player needs the same Valmod files as the server, because the pack also changes the interface and icons.

Playing Valmod today

Steam still offers Alpha 16.4, the last Alpha 16 build, as the alpha16.4 branch for both the game and the dedicated server (Properties, Betas). Valmod's final updates were made during Alpha 16, so that is the branch to try.

Valmod on a hosted server

7d2d.net has no one-click Valmod install. Our plans M, L and XL give you full file access if you want to upload mod files yourself, but Valmod needs the Alpha 16 game build, not the current V3.3.
